Matthew has many hats: An indie filmmaker and award-winning producer. A published critic, essayist and author. A freelance script and digital video editor. A former teacher of digital film production and screen acting.

Matthew has written for numerous publications. This includes analytical columns for Screen Anarchy and Film Inquiry, indie movie reviews for IonCinema and Film Threat, DVD/Blu-ray reviews for Under the Radar, and video essays for the Anime News Network. Matthew has also contributed to the Crucial 21st Century Cinema Directed by Women Initiative and Cineaste Magazine. He is a member of the Large Association of Movie Blogs, and serves as a short story and screenwriting judge for NYC Midnight.

His work has been seen on national television networks such as CNN and Fox. He has contributed to projects for the Washington International Trade Association, the American Heart Association, The Real News Network, TV Worldwide, the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger, and the National Building Museum.

Matthew produced the award-winning 2020 indie film, The Forgiving (while directing/editing the behind-the-scene featurettes). It is currently available on Roku, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, and Tubi.

He helmed the 2021 showbiz documentary, Hideaki Anno: A Career Retrospective, for the Anime News Network — writing, directing, editing, and narrating the film. This was completed while serving as editor on the award-winning documentary, Where’s Foster? from debut documentarian Alice Strickland.

Matthew’s latest project, Splatterpunk Paradise - a short documentary on Japanese V-Cinema - is available as a special feature on the 2024 Blu-ray release of Naoyuki Tomomatsu’s Scissorpenis by Error 4444.

Matthew’s accolades include Best Feature Film at the 2021 Maryland International Film Festival (The Forgiving), and a nomination for the 2019 Jean-Luc Godard Award in Experimental Film by Cult Critic Magazine (Chemicals, Like God).
